You do need to purchase the previous two versions in addition to WotLK in order to play WotLK.
If you’re on a trial version right now, I would upgrade one at a time. Get the original first, then when you hit 60, get BC, then when you hit 70 get LK. Unless of course you want to play a Draenei or Blood Elf, then you’d want to get the original and BC at the same time.
What the site means is that you can upgrade online. For those that already had the previous 2 versions, they can go onto the website and upgrade, enter their key and get the upgrade from Burning Crusade to Wrath.
WotLK does *not* have all three versions. It is just an expansion, and even states on the front of the box that you need to have WoW and Burning Crusade to use it.
