I have just started world of warcraft and i was wondering if anyone had any tips for me on making serious amounts of gold and effectively using the auction house.

You should get a decent amount of money from questing/mobs as you level. Gathering professions )herbalism/mining/skinning) will help, either by saving money on your other profession (skinning vs buying skins off auction) or selling excess low stuff you don’t use that’s in demand.
Quests and instances will get you some money as well, plus better items and some extra stuff that you may be able to sell on the auction house.
If you join a leveling guild, you may earn access to guild repairs and guild members who will crat stuff for you at cost or less, which can save you some money that you can repay later. (You hsuoldn’t join a guild just for that, though.)
The Auctioneer add-on, with regular scanning (preferably daily or more often) will help you get ideas of average market value for things; you can buy cheap and sell for higher or sell things at a price that’s fair enough to sell and still make you some money.
At max level, experience rerewards from quests turn into gold, plus you also have several daily quests you can do for additional gold. Up there, there are often hihh-level trade skills you can sell to make extra profits.
Watch the market on your server and if you see anything that’s posted for less than it’s average price, buy it and resell.
[Edit] There’s an addon, Warcraft Auction House Mastery, that can be very helpful in this. It’s kind of a resource hog so you probably don’t want to have it enabled all the time.
What i do is i normally search the item that you want to sell and see what the prices for it are around. Most people buy cheap at the auction house so if you were trying to sell Gauntlets of the Bear, you would see what the lowest price for it is and go one copper under it.
If it were 20 silver you would try selling it for 19 silver 99 copper.

I’d say learn mining and herbalism and sell them, you make good amount of gold for each stack of 20.
Ehm. Theres honestly not alot of point in ‘playing the auction house’ as it were. Make sure you have as big as bags as possible, pick up and vendor all the greys you find etc. Otherwise top level cloth is always a fair earner, though how much depends on your realm. However your more likely to make better gold by having two gathering proffessions, IE, mining or skinning. You lose out on being able to make beneficial things, but you’l make more gold. However, honestly, the best way of making money is daily quests, and quests in general, at max level.
P.S, don’t buy gold.. theres nothing in the game you cant buy by spamming your max level daily quests for a few days.
You can get great deals in Auction Houses. You can also make good money as well. Always sell items in our Faction City’s like Stormwind or Iron Forge. Contested auction houses charge 5-10 times the fee for items to be sold.
The best way to make gold in Auction houses is running instances and selling everything you get in them, Im a level 60, I solo Uldaman frequently and sell all the Binds on Equip items. I usually make anywhere from 25-50 gold and it only takes me about an hour to solo the instance. See if a high level will run you through. Going through will others at your level will lessen the chance you get any items.

There are some good add-ons you can use that will help you get the best out of the auction house & earn tons of gold. Nyhm’s package comes with good auction house resources.
herbalism skinning and minning all bring in stuff u can sell
i herb in large amounts and usualy sell in bulk for cheeper
hypotheticly:
somone puts 20 goldthorn up for 25g
I put up 2 stacks of 20 goldthorn for 20g each
although mines 5g cheaper I still make more money because people buy more of my cheaper than the competetors.
others use this strat so dont go to low on your price. if thing really get low bank it untill the prices rise again
First get two gathering professions, mining, skinning and herbalism. Gather and sell, while training, questing or mob hunting. Go to AH, sell the item in the highest stack, in most cases x20. Check the auction for items that are always for sell, like bags, ores, herbs, leather etc. If they have a low bidding bid, same for rare and epic items.
well if you want your items to sell just make sure youre checking the prices other characters are selling their same item for. Make it a little lower than theirs obviously. Especially if its a more common item.
Learn the Harbalism and Mining skill, once you have gathered many of a certain item you can get a fair bit for them on AH.
