I don’t like leatherworking, because I like my mail armor. I like mining because it brings me some income. I also hear enchating is important for improving ones equipment and engineering for improving ones damage for arrows and bullets, so which professions should I choose?
Thank You both. I’ll have to read up some more.
Leatherworking creates mail armor at higher levels (50+).
Mining and Herbalism are good money-makers and can help crafting professions, but require you to Track to use them effectively, removing one of the benefits of leveling a hunter.
Enchanting is a major money sink, though it has improved now that you can buy Vellums and enchant those and sell the resulting scrolls.
Engineering is an even bigger money sink, since almost everything you can make can only be used by engineers.
My recommendation? Stick with Skinning/Leatherworking, for the BoP mail LW gear, and cheaper crafted mail LW gear later on. If you’re not going to do that, I’d go Mining/Skinning or Herbalism/Skinning. Herbalism/Alchemy can be good, too, but you don’t need potions as often, being a hunter.
If you perfer a gun mining+engineering would be a good combo that way you can make your own guns and bullets as well as some really cool gadgets when you get it to a high enough level.
Theres also mining+jewelcrafting to make your own rings, trinkets and gems. You could also choose enchanting if you want it but I would never get it on an archer. Also if you find the recipies you can make powerful scopes to attach to your bow/gun heres some examples.

I have both and here is what i got through my experiences:
Engineering: Head piece is nice, mount will be cool, but if you don’t have mining, you won’t get much out of the grenades and such, thus making it fairly worthless once you upgrade the helmet.
Leatherworking: Nice to level with, but none of the gear from any pattern (pre SSC/TK) is that great and is all upgraded easily from instancing and pvp, thus making it fairly worthless. However, you can make the leg armor enchants for yourself….or you can save yourself the hassle and buy it from someone else who has the nether already.
In my honest opinion, both are in dire need of review to add some more schematics/patterns, as they lack useful items for a character at level 70. Really, they STILL are two of the most unused professions, and even with the small addition of some patterns.
